I finally watched a Sermon from City Harvest Church after not being part of that church for about a year or so. This is my first few times viewing the sermon from the Internet. It is a quiet and peaceful Sunday so I thought maybe I could make it an effort to hear what the pastor has got to say. As expected, the sermons were about the same almost all the time I tune in and the vision stays the same.. nothing wrong with that. However, unlike the past when I was a staunch and deluded Christian, I just found myself doing more critical thinking and listening while viewing the sermon this time around. Pastor Kong led the church in the sermon today, which, in my opinion, he is better off than Pastor Tan (who knows nuts about science). Heck, the entire church isn't good on science in the first place. I was in deep shock and disbelief when in the introduction, Kong said, |

It is said often, that Ignorance is bliss. While it pays to be wise about many things in the world, it’s also equally true that half knowledge is dangerous.
I was watching a quiz show on one of the Kannada Channels on TV, and one of the questions involved completing a proverb. It went something like this “ A person with half knowledge makes a great noise about himself.”

When he called politics "queen of the sciences," I wonder if he ever had our present-day farce of science funding being controlled by wingnuts and charlatans who are quite possibly the least qualified to be making decisions on the validity of scientific inquiry (that being an improvement over when they are downright hostile to it, of course). On a side note, I wonder if it is still acceptable to reference The Onion for everything when the Stuff White People Like blog has just written about our love of... referencing the Onion for everything. |

I didn't even know about this myth - but apparently some people believe that the equinoxes are the only day of the year when you can balance eggs on their ends (riiiight). Twice a year the path of the Sun crosses the Earth's equator, making night and day precisely the same length. Most people know these days as the start of springtime (the vernal equinox) and the start of autumn (the autumnal equinox). Of course the vernal equinox in the northern hemisphere is the autumnal equinox in the South, and so on. The northern automnal equinox takes place tomorrow! |
