NC braces for 94L

Today's Visible Loop
Today

The National Hurricane Center isn't to worried about 94L but if you take a look (via webcam) at HWY 12 on Hatteras Island at Rodanthe it is completely covered with ocean overwash now. It is about 3 1/2 hours since high tide. Not good for the coastal region.

Science looks for difference between liberals and conservatives

Interesting:

Political conservatives operate out of a fear of chaos and absence of order while political liberals operate out of a fear of emptiness, a new Northwestern University study soon to be published in the Journal of Research in Personality finds. "Social scientists long have assumed that liberals are more rational and less fearful than conservatives, but we find that both groups view the world as a dangerous place," says Dan McAdams, study co-author and professor of human development and psychology at Northwestern University. "It's just that their fears emerge differently."

Very straightforward: Obama's responses to Nature on an evolution and stem cell questions

PZ Myers reports on Nature's election 2008 edition,  He is understandably very proud of Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama's response to a question on evolution:

I believe in evolution, and I support the strong consensus of the scientific community that evolution is scientifically validated. I do not believe it is helpful to our students to cloud discussions of science with non-scientific theories like intelligent design that are not subject to experimental scrutiny.

It's a very straightfoward answer that marks Obama out as the candidate for science. Also of interest in Obama's answer on Bush's ban on federal funding for embryonic stem cell research.
