KRISTINA DELGADO/GLOBAL WARMING

Global warming is a huge impact on this world!

Weird Geniuses

I have always wondered about the men who take things to the next level. Whether in the Sciences or the arts how do these great thinkers differ in their way of thinking and could their abilities be related to what today would be considered mental disorder. When thinking on this issue I have also wondered how many people today might have come up with some great thing but were disconnected from that special part of their mind by modern drugs so that they might appear normal.

Large Hadron Collider? What?

Okay. So I'm official mad at these stupid scientists who think it's a brilliant idea to go around underground with their fancy machinery and what not, trying to figure out what things are. I mean, sure, I see the points in researching the bottom of the ocean... but matter? And dark matter? And that stuff?

I think it's an incredibly dumb move on their part. I guess it won't matter when we don't wake up on Wednesday morning... right? So what does the rest of the world think about this?

I'm thinking absolutely pessimistically on this topic. But at what point do they go too far? Risking the world and losing everything just because they want to see if they can do something? If they mess this up, I'll be mad. As a matter of fact, I might just explode! Or get sucked into a giant vacuum! Or... yeah. I freaked my sister out.

So what do YOU believe in?....

Someone recently asked me this question, rather incredulously too I might add, when they learned I was an Atheist...  Since I get tired of answering this question I wanted to just post it here and then in the future I will be able to just 'cut and paste' my reply,....   Thanks for your patience:

I believe in String Theory.

I really don’t want a debate, but it’s early PST so that COULD change…

The problem with religion is that 90% of the world population become the same religion as their parents, there is no ’soul searching’ going on in that instance… It’s just something you ‘believe’ because you were taught to do so by your parents… And MOST believe it to a point of fanatical and illogical ranting when they hear ANY opinion that does not agree with their own…

The Visible Man and Woman

I believe I had a Visible Woman Model Kit as a toddler, but was far too young to appreciate just how awesome it was.

They are still sold, and the model has gone surprisingly unchanged for the past 40 years.

The models are intriguing to look at, though I can imagine young children would be rather put off by them.

Mann's Statistical Amplification of Local Data

Ok, now I am getting closer.  After scaling the data in SD units from 1400-1800 and averaging both the 484 series from the accepted Mann paper data and 1209 series from the total set I got this plot.

We can see that the data in the calibration period is clearly amplified, pressing slightly lower at 1850 and substantially higher in 2000 as compared to the average.  I found it interesting that this also magnified the 200-750 year data as well, since there is not as much data here the individual series can make a big difference.  This next graph plots the difference between accepted and total data.

SO

Wednesday is the day when the Large Hadron Collider is going to be switched on, and I'm pretty excited about it. What will they discover? What new knowledge can we obtain from it? Are scientists all wrong, and will it show nothing?

There are so many questions!!

I hope it's something really important. I want to know, man! This is history!

Anyway, I know I promised I would talk about what I did over the summer holidays, I know. I'll do it, eventually.

Not that anyone cares :)

Large Hadron Collider - Harbinger of Doom?

You may or may not have heard about the Large Hadron Collider.  They ("they" being scientists and physicists) are going to turn it on for the first time on September 10.  Many people around the world are upset about this, because the scientists have acknowledged that it's possible that black holes could be created by the Large Hadron Collider.  I don't know about you, but I remember learning about black holes in elementary school - dark whorls of universe-suctioning doom.  Though there are lawsuits against the LHC and many, many people protesting it's existence, they are going to turn it on anyway just to See What Happens.  I guess I can understand that, being somewhat attracted to bright red buttons that say DO NOT PUSH myself.  But I think I could avoid such a button, if there were indicators that the very destruction of humankind could result.
