Today was our field trip to the Beech Creek Botanical Gardens and butterfly house. What an amazing and beautiful place. Monarchs, American Painted Lady, Eastern Black Swallowtail, Pearl Crescents, Red Admirals, Red Spotted Purples, Eastern Tiger Swallowtails ... I can't name them all. They were enchanting. They were also quite friendly, as you can tell from the photos. The girls were successful with their Q-tips. Ben was not as adept at procuring a butterfly on the end of his ... and it frustrated him immensely. Just as a fit was about to occur (in the form of him climbing over the brick fence, running through the shrubbery and grabbing anything with wings), a tiny, delicate little butterfly landed on his fist. And he didn't move. He froze, big blue eyes staring entranced, and then he grinned. It was impossible to get a photo because I was holding him. I can say it was a perfect moment. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name. Here's a photo anyway. It was very cute. [caption id="attachment_63" align="aligncenter" width="432" caption="Cute little critter!"] |
