Fun Fiction to Read

A couple of weeks ago, I found myself able to read fiction for pleasure once more.  Ever since law school, I hadn't been able to enjoy a good book, especially a novel.  I forgot how much I missed it.

I'm reading Dashiell Hammet's Red Harvest right now.  Very fun book.  It's nice to finally become acquainted with the story on which the Coen Brothers' Miller's Crossing is based (perhaps their most beautiful film); and which - allegedly - inspired the plot of Kurosawa's Yojimbo.

I'm also reading an eBook version of Michael Crichton's Prey that I downloaded onto my Palm Centro.  Prey is about nanomachines gone out of control.

I'm only a few pages into the story and nothing exciting has happened yet, but Crichton has set up something scary to occur, as only he can.  I'm surprised no one has adapted Prey to the screen yet.

At any rate, the topic of nanomachines as existential threat has interested me for a few months now, so I know I'll like the book.
