Patrick Murphy tours the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center in St. Louis where researchers are studying the cassava plant, an important source of food for 800 million people on earth. These plants are vulnerable to disease and lack several essential vitamins and nutrients. Scientists at the Danforth Center are conducting experiments to produce new cassava plants with traits that add nutritional content.
